Roots To Rise Organization ("Roots To Rise," "we," "us," "our") is a Houston, Texas nonprofit organization serving individuals experiencing homelessness through outreach, hygiene resources, wellness support, and pathways toward housing stability. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information from donors, volunteers, partners, website visitors, and the people we serve.

By using our website or giving to or volunteering with Roots To Rise, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect

From donors: name, email, phone, mailing address, donation amount and date, and any dedication or message you include. Payment card details are collected and stored by our payment processors, not by us.

From volunteers and partners: name, contact information, availability, skills, emergency contact, and any forms or agreements you complete.

From website visitors: information you submit through forms, plus information collected automatically through cookies and analytics, such as IP address, browser type, pages visited, and referring website.

From the people we serve: only the information needed to provide services, connect individuals to resources, and meet funder or legal reporting requirements. This information is protected under our Client Confidentiality section below.

How We Use Information

We use personal information to:

• Process donations and send receipts and thank-you messages

• Coordinate volunteers and outreach events

• Share updates, impact stories, and fundraising campaigns

• Respond to questions and partnership inquiries

Donor Privacy

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share donor information with other organizations for their fundraising or marketing.

Client Confidentiality and Dignity

The people we serve deserve privacy and respect. Roots To Rise:

• Does not share personal information about the people we serve without their consent, except when required by law or to prevent serious harm

• Does not photograph, record, or share the name, face, or story of anyone we serve without their written consent

• Removes or changes identifying details in impact stories unless the person has given written permission

• Reports only anonymous, combined information to funders and partners, unless a person consents otherwise

Volunteers and staff are required to follow these confidentiality standards.

Sharing Information

We share information only as needed with trusted service providers, such as website hosting, donation processing, email, and volunteer management platforms, and with accountants, auditors, or legal advisors. We may disclose information when required by law. Service providers may use information only to perform services for us.

Cookies and Analytics

We use cookies and analytics tools to understand how visitors use our website and to improve it. You can set your browser to refuse cookies, though some features may not work properly.

Email and Text Communications

Donation & Refund Policy

Thank you for supporting Roots To Rise Organization. Your gifts fund outreach, hygiene resources, wellness support, and pathways toward housing stability for people experiencing homelessness in Houston.

Tax Status

Roots To Rise Organization is pursuing federal tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We have not yet received IRS recognition, so we cannot confirm that donations are tax-deductible at this time. Please consult your tax advisor about your gift. We will update this page and notify donors when our status is confirmed.

How Your Gift Is Used

Unrestricted gifts are used where the need is greatest, including direct services, supplies, program operations, and the administrative costs that keep our programs running.

If you designate a gift for a specific program or campaign, such as the Mobile Hygiene Care Unit, we will use it for that purpose. If a campaign is fully funded, changes, or cannot be completed, we will use designated gifts for the closest related program serving the same community, or contact you if you prefer otherwise.

Receipts

You will receive an email receipt for online donations. Please keep it for your records. Contact us if you need a copy or a year-end summary.

Refunds

Donations are generally non-refundable. If you made an error, such as the wrong amount or a duplicate gift, contact us within 30 days of the donation and we will work with you to correct it. Refunds are issued to the original payment method.

Recurring Donations

You may change or cancel a recurring donation at any time by contacting us or through your donation platform account. Changes take effect before the next scheduled payment.

Third-Party Fundraising Platforms

Some donations are made through third-party platforms such as GoFundMe. Those gifts are also subject to the platform's own terms, fees, and refund policies. Some platforms may issue their own receipts.

In-Kind Donations

We welcome donations of new hygiene items and other needed supplies. Please contact us before dropping off items so we can confirm current needs. We may pass along or decline items we cannot use. We can provide a written acknowledgment of in-kind gifts, but donors are responsible for determining their value.
